Bryce
Baumann is a life-long resident of Madison County. He recently
graduated from Berry College in Rome, Georgia holding a degree Environmental
Science with a concentration in Agriculture. He is now a local farmer
and manager of the Berea Farmers' Market. Through his work he is promoting
the acceptability and sustainability of an agriculture model centered
around the stewardship and preservation of the land that sustains our
lives and local culture.
Lisa
Berry Lisa Berry grew up in Newburgh, Indiana, on the Ohio River. For
two decades, she has worked in various capacities in higher-education
publishing including a long stint at McGraw-Hill. In 2006, she
moved to John Wiley and Sons. Since moving to Berea, she has become
more interested in and committed to sustainable living. She and
her husband, Chad, and children Madelaine and Nat moved to Berea in 2006
from East Tennessee.
Mark
Jeantheau is a program analyst, web developer, and writer, with an educational
background in chemistry and computer science. In 2003, Mark started GrinningPlanet.com,
a web site designed to use humor to promote awareness of environment, energy,
and sustainability issues. In 2005, Peak Oil and other factors prompted
Mark (and his partner, Donna) to move from the D.C. area to Berea, where
they recently completed an EnergyStar-certified home. Mark began contributing
his technical expertise to the Sustainable Berea board in 2007.
Sarah Paulson at the Berea College Agriculture and Natural Resources Department and Sarah promotes local food economies by helping Berea College students to direct market farm products while working to create viable sustainable agriculture business models. Before coming to Berea, she divided her time between a successful certified organic CSA farm business serving Nashville, TN and teaching in Kentucky schools as an artist in residence through grant funded programs. Sarah’s figurative sculpture explores the current ecological crisis through Classical themes.

Cheyenne
Olson is a native of Kansas. She is
a former journalist, has a Ph.D. in communications, lived in Australia
for 9 years and moved back to America in 1997. She works at Berea
College as a fund-raiser. She and Richard married on April 1,
2006 and in lieu of wedding gifts, requested donations that were used
to found Sustainable Berea.
Richard
Olson was raised in upstate New York. He has a Masters degree in
ecology, and a Ph.D. in Agronomy. Since 1999 he has been on the faculty
of Berea College as Director of the Sustainability and Environmental
Studies (SENS) Program. Under his direction, SENS has developed a curriculum
centered around ecological design - the purposeful integration of human
actions with the structures and functions of the natural world.
