Turn out for the Berea Solar Tour

The Berea Solar Tour drew more than 100 people on visits of the 10 solar homes and buildings around Berea. In addition, 30 people attended each of the workshops offered on “Logistics of solar installations for the home” and an “Ask the expert” question and answer session at the conclusion of the tour.

“The significant difference this year seemed to be that people were not simply curious about solar, they had made the decision to buy solar or to seriously consider it for their homes,” said Mark Jeantheau, whose two solar tracking arrays are rated at 5.4 kW. Jeantheau and Richard Olson both reported about 30 visitors to their homes sporting solar electric and solar hot water heating.

Steve and Patty Boyce who have a 2.66 kW grid-intertied photovoltaic system on their house said they had “56 people sign in during the tour and many more came who didn’t sign.”

Sustainable Berea will continue exploring alternative energy for the community on Wednesday, October 8 when the SB membership meets to continuing working on its “transition town” document that will be presented to city hall in December.
