Berea Rain Barrel Festival

The citywide rain barrel project is:

  • a way to bring the local and surrounding communities together for a day of education about water conservation, watershed management, and good stewardship of their water resources

  • a community project where everyone can be an artist

  • an event that will provide funds for clubs/students/artists who paint barrels

  • an exciting and entertaining event – with food, music, and educational booths and displays that will draw tourists to Berea

  • a public auction and sale of painted (and unpainted) rain barrels for the purpose of getting people to buy and use rain barrels as a way of capturing water

  • a bold statement that water is a resource of importance and concern to Berea

Our ideal outcomes are:

  • To have a Berea citizenry that knows the sources and limits of their water supply, and understands the need for reducing water use

  • To have a significant portion of Berea’s citizens take steps to reduce water  use in their homes and businesses

  • To have rain barrels installed on homes and businesses around the town

  • To bring positive publicity to the city of Berea through a comprehensive advertising/publicity campaign

  • To expose citizens, through educational booths and displays, to actions they can take for sustainable living related to water, food production, recycling,  reusing, and energy conservation

  • To provide a blueprint for a citywide rain barrel festival that other cities can use for their own community’s education about sustainable living
