Mickey’s Flowers
Thanking the People Who Make Berea Special
Growing flowers was a lifelong passion for Mary L. (“Mickey”) Hozdik. Every summer she would create fresh cut flower bouquets to share with others, knowing the joy they would bring. Because Mickey was a longtime supporter of the Berea Urban Farm, her family has chosen to continue her practice of sharing flowers by supporting the BUF’s Mickey’s Flowers project.
Saturday mornings from July 11 through August 15, people who have pre-registered can come to the BUF and receive free cut flowers and guidance in making a bouquet or floral arrangement. They agree to give the bouquet to thank someone whose actions make Berea a better place. Maybe it’s a police officer, teacher, nurse, food bank volunteer, public works employee or a special grandmother. The list of worthy recipients is very long.
If you would like to thank someone and make their day a bit brighter:
-
Register in advance for a space at one of the six Saturday’s. Registration helps us to ensure we have enough flowers available.
-
Come to the Berea Urban Farm, 201 Adams Street, anytime 9am to 11am. We will have buckets of cut flowers, some vases, scissors, and someone to provide guidance.
You don’t need to tell us who will be receiving your arrangement, but we would love to hear your story if you want to share.
Help us to remember Mickey Hozdik and spread flowers of thanks throughout Berea.

Registration opens the Sunday before each event.
